West Coast Classics are proud to present a very special limited production 2017 Mercedes G Class 550 4x4 Squared SUV which boasts one California owner since new and with only 11K original miles and which was originally purchased at 'Keyes European Mercedes-Benz', of Sherman Oaks, CA where it was serviced from 2017 under warranty until present and with no accidents or damage as confirmed by the Carfax report.
Purchased new by its original and only southern California owner and always well maintained on schedule at the Mercedes dealership and always garaged, the vehicle is still virtually as new! The original factory paint is in virtually flawless condition as is the interior.
With an MSRP starting at $225K, before their insane mark ups, and if you could get one, for those unfamiliar with this vehicle, imagine taking the standard G-Class, which is already one tremendously capable off-road, add massive flared fenders, enormous tires and portal axles, all to get 18 inches of ground clearance, just for reference, the Ford Raptor has 9.3 inches of ground clearance.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 44 is one of approximately 300 examples built for the US market and is finished in 'Designo Graphite' [Gray] over 'Designo Black' Nappa Leather and Dinamica upholstery. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and three locking differentials. Additional equipment includes portal axles, dual coilover suspension, side exhaust outlets, 22 alloy wheels, carbon-fiber wheel arches, LED auxiliary lighting, a sunroof, climatized and power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, COMAND infotainment with navigation, and a Harman-Kardon LOGIC7 sound system.
This G550 4x4 SQUARED has only 11,618 original miles and is offered with two remote key fobs, manufacturers literature and a clean Carfax report. Factory 22 alloy wheels are each held in place by eight bolts and are mounted with 325/55 Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires. Braking is handled by cross-drilled rotors and red six-piston front calipers. G550 4x4 models feature two parallel coilovers and portal axles on each corner, which help yield 17.7 of ground clearance. The twin-turbocharged M176 4.0-liter V8 is factory rated at 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, which is directed to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and three locking differentials.
The original Jeep was the first military vehicle that found widespread popularity in civilian dress. Then came the Hum-Vee, which also spawned GMs hummer brand of over-the-top 4x4s. Still, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, or G-Wagen, stands apart. Now in production for almost 40-years, the Gelandewagon has long since left its military side behind, and become the pinnacle of Mercedes exclusivity.
Whether its our own U.S. Jeep and Hummer, Japans Land Cruiser, or Britains Land Rover, every developed country seems to have a battle-ready vehicle built to conquer both enemy territory as well as suburbia. For almost 40 years in Germany that role has been played by the Mercedes-Benz G-wagen, or as its now known, the G-Class. But then every once in a while, engineers seem intent on proving that these leather-lined rigs are built for a lot more than just trolling country clubs or making a statement in the carpool lane. Thus, we get very special versions like this 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4X4 squared.
Its large, in charge, and towers over just about everything on the road. Yet despite the massive rolling stock, jacked-up suspension, and high center of gravity; steering remains responsive, and theres very minimal wandering, even at highway speeds. Of course theres not much sidewall flexing with these 22-inch wheels wearing 325/55 Pirelli Scorpion A/Ts either. Overall, it feels more tame and confident, than macho or overbearing.
Moving this behemoth around is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 416horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque. It feels fantastically powerful, just adding to the assertive nature that this truck gives you and can hit 60 mph in just 6.5-seconds. Theres enough low end grunt at launch to spin these 22's up a bit, but not enough to make it too difficult to get away cleanly. Plenty of mid-range beef keeps it moving, while the 7G-Tronic automatic clicks through gears quickly and firmly. Its easy to forget you're riding so high off the ground, as the miles flies by in 15.1-seconds and 91 miles-per-hour.
Perhaps more impressively, the 4X4 squared will stop from 60 in just 112-feet. Pretty amazing considering it weighs an astounding 6,700-lbs. As has always been the case with all of these military-inspired Utes, the G-Class has become more-and-more popular, continuing to grow more user-friendly, with ever increasing levels of comfort and luxury. Perhaps the auto industrys most unlikely icon, the Mercedes-Benz G-wagen was originally developed for the German military way back in 1979. The civilian model gained popularity for its rugged chic and anti-style style.
Then AMG got its hands on the G-wagen, and the muscled-up variants including the G63 and the twin-turbo V-12 powered G65 eventually eclipsed the standard G-class in sales. It became clear that the more outrageous Mercedes made the G-wagen, the more buyers loved it. That realization led to vehicles such as the triple-axle G63 AMG 6x6, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, and then this: the G550 4x4 SQUARED. It literally towers over the standard models and is almost exactly a foot taller than the pedestrian G550, as well as a set of portal axles and 36.1-inch-tall 325/55R-22 Pirelli Scorpion ATR off-road tires are the defining elements of this extreme G. It has an 82.7-inch girth, which is more than nine inches greater than the width of a regular G550. With its three locking differentials (as in all G-class models except the 6x6, which gets five), it can really dig in and crawl like a tank.
Powered by Mercedes-AMGs twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, which musters 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque the 4x4 will launch itself from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. Thats just 0.4 second behind the standard G550 (with the same powertrain), which is a pretty narrow difference given that the tall-boy version is 753 pounds heavier, vaulting past the three-ton marker to crush the scales at 6635 pounds. The quarter-mile comes up in 14.8 seconds at 93 mph, again just a shade behind the regular versions 14.4 seconds at 97 mph and the 4x4 will keep accelerating past 100 mph, eventually topping out at over 121 mph.
While you could get into a base G550 for $123K + you had to pony up starting at least $225K + to get squared.
This is a perfectly well maintained and virtually flawless and as new example with less than 11K original miles & a great opportunity to buy one of the most desirable and certainly most collectible luxury SUV's on the road!
You will look long and hard to find a finer example of this very rare beautiful 2017 Mercedes G 550 4x4 SQUARED model owned by only one very careful and mature non-smoking California owner since new with only 11K original miles!
