The original factory 'Signal Red' paint is truly striking and was showcased in the XJR-S original brochure for the car and the rich interior is as fabulous with the fine grain leather seats and trim with the high contrast walnut wood veneers and dashboard still as new. The car has it's original Jaguar radio/cassette system and all its original tools and the unused spare wheel have never been removed from the trunk.
No amount of information can prepare you for the precision of this car's responses and the taut road handling you experience behind the wheel - this is no ordinary Jaguar or indeed to be confused with an XJS, Jaguarsport created a superb sports car at the same time and in the same factory as the XJ220, a car which routinely commands over $300K today and a car quoted in the 'Guinness Book of Records' 1994 to 1999 issues as "the fastest speed ever attained by a standard production car with a top speed of over 217mph" before being replaced by another British car, the McLaren F1 which drove 240.1 mph (386.4 km/h) in March 1998 with rev-limiter increased.; we feel that this rare XJR-S is a true sleeper in every sense of the word in the Collector Sports Car market and a car which will ultimately reward any future collector handsomely.
All the options are working as they should including obviously the air conditioning. This particular car must be seen and driven to be truly appreciated! The car was sold new at 'Keeler Motor Car, Inc Jaguar' of Latham, NY to a reportedly mature owners who obviously took great pride in the car and who always garaged the car in their New York home and who drove only some 27K original miles. It was then sold in the year 2009 to its second New York owner who drove the car for some 5K further miles and who then sold the car to it's most recent owner in the year 2014 with 32K original miles who has owned and run a renown New York service garage since 1960; with a clean CARFAX report to confirm this history. The car was serviced at primarily only Jaguar dealerships since new and had a recent complete service at 33,752 miles at 'Van Kleecks Tires' of Lake Katrine, NY, with a complete tune up, new brake actuator, new front brakes, hoses & calipers and an air conditioning recharge and the car now boasts a clean bill of health. From looking at these extensive service records it is obvious that at no time was any expense spared on this particular vehicles preventive maintenance.
As previously stated the car has reportedly always been garaged with absolutely no history of any accident damage with all original factory OEM parts and paint, obviously owned by only very careful and mature drivers since new - never ever raced or abused! Powered by one of the finest, race proven engines built by Jaguar, the smooth big block 6.0L V12 engine (earlier XJS models used a 5.3L V12) which was produced for only the last three years of production (1993-95) and completely discontinued the following year 1995, it is an extremely low production model with only some 100 models built! It was a worthy successor to the XK series of Jaguar sports cars dating from the late 1940's and this particular example drives exceptionally well - extraordinarily smooth and powerful - it must surely drive exactly the same as when it left the showroom floor over 24 years ago!
Following a tradition of automotive innovation, Jaguar created an extension of it's mainstream manufacturing operations to continue the development of vehicles which more fully explored and expanded performance and handling potential of it's sedans and sporting cars. TRW stands for the championship winning 'Tom Walkinshaw Racing' who had been modifying XJS's for street use until the formation of a 50/50 joint venture with Jaguar Cars Ltd to form 'JaguarSport' in 1988. TRW brought the highest of credentials to the enterprise with responsibility for IMSA GT Racing in the United States and the World Sports Car Championship Series, TRW boasted three World championships and wins at both the 24 hours Le Mans and the Daytona 24 hours; the two foremost endurance sports car races on earth. JaguarSport engineers, based at TRW's Kidlington headquarters in Oxfordshire, England developed a range of modified Jaguars including the XJR-S and the world's fastest production car at that time, the 200+ MPH Jaguar XJ220. Both vehicles were built at JaguarSport's manufacturing facility at Bloxham in the Cotswolds, England. JaguarSport engineered a high performance version of the standard 5.3 litre V12 for the XJR-S. Many of the same components which were modified for the XJ12 engine were modified for the XJR-S V12. Displacement was expanded to 6.0 litres (5993 cc) by lengthening the crank shaft stroke by 70mm to 78.5 mm. The combustion chamber had to be enlarged, creating a compression ratio of 11.0:1. Horsepower was increased to 330 bhp with a massive mid-range torque of 339 lb ft @ 3750 rpm. The car will go 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 157mph. Whilst immensely powerful, respecting another great Jaguar tradition, it delivered its power in near silence with the inimitable smoothness that has always been a Jaguar hallmark. With an original window sticker for the coupe of over $73,990 and with many dealers selling the cars for prices well over that sticker price and some reported sales of over $129K, this rare and once in a lifetime opportunity to own this exclusive creation was only for the fortunate few.
The original XJR-S was named the 'Le Mans Celebration model' after Jaguar's glorious 24 Hours Le Mans race wins and in 1988 the first 100 were built in 'Tungsten Gray' color and sold in the European market only. Other European colors were Signal red, Regency Red, Jet Black, Solent blue, Silver Frost and Brooklands Green. The U.S models were sold and exported for one year only in 1993 after which the 'JaguarSport' group sadly disbanded. The XJR-S used the XJS as the basis of an otherwise extensively redesigned styling package which both distinguished the car and dramatically improved it's aerodynamic efficiency. The XJR-S featured an exclusive powertrain, suspension, unique and larger rims and wider rear tires, under trays, lower side sills, a custom front end treatment with special exterior and unique interior trim features and 'JaguarSport's' renown 6.0L version of Jaguar's famed SOHC V12 engine. The XJR-S is also distinguished by the special styled color coordinated front and rear aprons, sill covers and rear spoiler made of reinforced resin injection molded (RRIM) polyurethane. The aprons incorporate energy absorbing bumpers, as well as front angle marker lights. An assertive appearance is heightened by a de-chromed grille and headlight surrounds, instead a satin black finish is applied to the grille and the headlight surrounds. Headlight wash kit is standard on the XJR-S. Note that the XJR-S is not equipped with fog lights. The stylish flared lip-over sill covers and rear spoiler enhance aerodynamics and the dual twin tail pipes compliment the XJR-S body styling. Special XJR-S badging appears on the grille, chrome tread plates and on the rear quarter windows of the Coupe. The forged new pattern alloy wheels are uniquely styled for the XJR-S and the removal of all badging from the rear enhances it's exclusivity. The special body work enhances stability at highway speeds, side skirt extensions help smooth airflow at high speeds. The unique color combinations enhance exclusivity and this particular prototype is # 1 of the 100 plaqued by 'Asprey's' and only one of only two in this unique 'Flamenco Red' color. Polished walnut sapwood is used on the facia, instrument panel, door and window trim. The 'JaguarSport' logo appears on the speedometer and tachometer and the XJR-S features the 6.0 litre single overhead cam V12 engine with modifications designed by JaguarSport.
As previously stated, this particularly collectible example has covered only some 34K original miles in the hands of only three very fastidious and well documented owners! With a new car smell as confirmation, this must absolutely be one of the finest examples available anywhere of this classic and increasingly desirable and collectible 6.0L 330HP XJR-S V12 Jaguar - one of only 100 models imported into the U.S. in this penultimate year of production ever of the legendary V12 XJS and one of the only 21 XJR-S 'Signal Red' Convertibles built of the original 50 Red and 50 Black cars! This therefore will prove to be a very collectible investment in probably the last classically beautiful design built by Jaguar in their long and famous history of classic lines - a sure-fire classic sports car investment for the Jaguar enthusiast or simply 'pride of place' in any astute classic car collector's collection! You will certainly look long and hard to find a finer example of this extremely low mileage and always garaged 1993 6.0L 330HP V12 collectible Jaguar XJR-S Convertible available anywhere else.
