This 1990 Anniversary Edition Thunderbird Super Coupe is powered by a supercharged 3.8-liter V6 engine and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. 3,371 Anniversary Thunderbird Super Coupes were produced. Includes the Window Sticker and special anniversary accessories. Recently acquired via a collector who had himself acquired the vehicle from the original owner, this Thunderbird SC has just 525 original miles and over 30 miles were street driven this year. This example sits on its original wheels and tires. It includes the original Ford Thunderbird 35th Anniversary items, original owner's manuals and warranty ID card, Anniversary Edition calendar, Soaring Spirit hardcover book, factory OEM car cover and 35th Anniversary factory OEM carpets. In 1990 Ford marked the 35th anniversary of the Thunderbird with a special edition of the top-of-the-line 'Super Coupe' and commemorative "35th Anniversary" status with just 3,371 examples being built. Ford was serious enough about preventing counterfeit cars that the fender badges were designed to disintegrate if removed, and to protect the cars, each came with a custom-fitted cover supplied by the same company that sews covers for Rolls-Royce, the cover for this car being still present and unused and in its original collector bag.
A more sophisticated, supercharged and intercooled version of the 3.8 L OHV V6 was used to power the high performance Thunderbird Super Coupe, also called Thunderbird SC for short. The Thunderbird Super Coupe was Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 1989, which Ford proudly advertised. Accompanying the more powerful engine, Super Coupes were equipped with a host of unique features underlining their higher performance demeanor relative to standard Thunderbirds. Among these were larger, 16 x 7.0 inch alloy wheels with high performance tires (standard Thunderbirds came with 15 x 6.0 inch steel wheels and 15 x 6.5 inch alloy wheels were optional), a Traction-Lok limited slip differential, standard anti-lock brakes, 4-wheel disc brakes (vented front and rear rotors), speed-sensitive variable assist steering, lower body side cladding, fog lights, and a stiffer suspension with adjustable shocks supplied by Tokico.
Boasting only some 525 original miles and being in all original and as new condition the car has its original black cast wheels, original 35th Anniversary floormats, car cover, collector accessories and of course the supercharged 3.8-liter V-6 engine rated at some 210 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque!
