This particular example is a rare and exceptional find with only some 23K original miles and is in still virtually brand new condition Purchased from only second southern California collector owner and obviously always garaged and covered with absolutely no damage or accidents ever - never raced or abused - babied all the way! The original 'Dark Red Metallic' paint is in absolutely stunning condition and virtually flawless condition, the striking black leather interior is also immaculate. The car has to be seen to be appreciated and driven to be believed - totally stock and quite amazingly still with it's original factory 'pre-delivery' sticker and number still attached to the inside of the hood and the original factory recommended tire pressure stickers still in place on the wheels of the car! The car was recently fully serviced at the renown 'Corvette Mike' of Anaheim, CA and is turn key ready for its new owners. Every option is working as it should - needs absolutely nothing but a new owner who appreciates this rare and highly desirable piece of Corvette history!
The super performance 'King of the Hill' ZR1 arrived in 1990 after months of hoopla with a price tag higher than any other General Motors product and became a collectible long before anyone ever saw one in the flesh! Customers were eager to pay far above retail price for the few examples that became available with many selling well into six figures, just like this particular! Powered by an entirely new all-aluminum 350 V8 (called the LT5) with four overhead cams, 32 valves, a tuned dual-stage intake system (with a valet mode that limits power by closing off the larger of the two inlet valves to each cylinder and shutting down one of the injectors at the turn of a key in the dash reducing horsepower to about 150 bhp to limit the exploitation of the engine's full potential to those the owner deemed unworthy!) 'Direct Fire' all-coil ignition, tuned port injection and other premium features and with Chevy widening the rear fenders three inches to accept the huge P315/35 ZR-17 with nearly six inches of more rubber, a suitably beefed up suspension and auto adjusting variable rate shock absorbers with a six speed ZF manual gearbox - with performance equal to that of a Ferrari Testarossa or a Lamborghini Countach, few cars on the road were able to challenge the ZR1's stupefying performance of a top speed of 180mph and 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and formidable road handling, this was considered the ultimate driving Corvette of it's day - a genuine world-class supercar! The rear panel was rounded off more than on the standard Vette and the four signature Corvette tail lamps were squared up too. The round dual tail pipes were replaced by a pair of twin rectangular pipes - it making more sense that the main distinguishing features of the ZR1 were put at the back of the car as that was the part of the car most other drivers would ever get to see! From the front, probably the only give-away was the purple tinted 'Koolof' windshield which was designed to reflect sunlight and keep the interior cool but the fact that it was effectively impervious to infra-red made the use of a dash panel mounted radar detector impossible until this problem was solved by leaving a small 'untinted' section at the bottom of the screen - for a remote control garage opener - obviously!
This must be one of the finest example's available anywhere of this, at last after many years of languishing only figuratively as a collectible, increasingly desirable investment in classic American muscle car history - an always garaged and original 23K miles of the desirable first year of production 1990 Corvette ZR1 - once Chevy gave the base model 1991 Corvette a rounded rump and squared tail lamps - the ZR1's main visual distinctions - demand suffered and therefore the 1990 ZR1 enjoys added status over the later years of production (1990-95) as both the debut ZR1 and the only one with the most desirable original 1984 front-end styling! An absolute must have for any Corvette enthusiast's collection or indeed any serious classic American muscle car collector!
