Purchased originally at 'Crown Ferrari' of St Petersburg, FL on 1/25/1990 and delivered to Greenwich, CT where it was initally serviced at 'Miller Motorcars' the Ferrari dealership of Greenwich, CT. The car was brought to San Rafael, California in 2011 with only 6,458 miles where it was then serviced at 'San Francisco Motor Sports', the long established and well regarded local Ferrari dealership and service center. The car has always been a non-smoking owners car which has always been serviced on schedule including in most recent years at 'F & M Motorsports' of Los Angeles, CA where the car recently received a full major service at a cost of almost $8K. The car will be sold with it's recent service records and its original factory tools and manuals. Driven only sparingly, obviously never seen rain or bad weather and always well maintained and serviced at Ferrari specialists since new. Obviously always garaged with absolutely no accidents and rare for these models no rust whatsoever and owned by only obviously very careful and meticulous mature drivers since new - never raced or abused. The original factory 'Red' color paint is in absolutely beautiful condition with no noticeable imperfections and the completely original tan leather interior with its original Ferrari leather skins is also in beautiful condition with virtually no signs of any wear. The cars original 5 spoke convex center wheels are uncurbed and unblemished and the original spare has not ever been used.As Ferrari's compact cars evolved they grew in both size and reputation. After the progression from 206 to 308 the next evolution was the Mondial and the 328 and what an evolution it was. Following on form, the initially controversial but ultimately very successful 308 series was the second generation of Ferrari's mid engined V8 range with the Mondial proving to be one of Ferrari's most commercially successful models over its thirteen-year run. The Mondial underwent many updates throughout its production starting in 1980 with the vehicle serving as the sole V8-engined 'GT' vehicle within the Ferrari range and it was a significantly more expensive model than the 308 GTBi with a base price for the coupe of $64K in 1981 (or over $180K in 2017 dollars). The second generation was the Mondial 3.2, produced from 1985, and this car enjoyed strong popularity within the Mondial range due to it being a sterling all-round performer. These were some of the last Ferrari's to have relatively straightforward maintenance and were powered by same engine as in the 328 with the same five-speed 'dog-leg' racing gearbox, which allowed for quicker and more direct shifts between 2nd and 3rd, and 4th and 5th, gears. The clutch was hydraulically-actuated and gear selection is via cable operation.
The final Mondial generation was to be the Mondial t, released in 1989 at a cost of almost $97K (over $200K today) and a car which was much more expensive than any of its closest rivals from any marque. The 't' was home to several Ferrari firsts: it used power assisted steering for the first time and had a 3-position electronically controlled suspension for a variable tradeoff between ride quality and road holding. It also had standard ABS and it boasted an even-larger 3.4L engine. All in all it was a substantially updated model which would 'spearhead a new generation of V8 Ferrari's', according to 'Road & Track' magazine, with both a redesigned exterior and interior styling with the door-handles being visually different, color keyed bumpers, and the car having an entirely new powertrain with the transmission and final-drive units forming a combined transaxle arrangement fitted to the rear of the engine block, using a 't' shaped engine and gearbox configuration design originally derived from Ferrari's 312T Formula 1 racing car. This 't' layout of the engine and transaxle continued to be used in mid-engined V8 model Ferraris, albeit with more sophisticated chassis for the years to come.
Ferrari enthusiasts and collectors now only consider the Mondial t to be easily be the ultimate incarnation & collectible regarding overall performance and refinement and the Mondial t as the most modern 4-seat, mid-engined, Ferrari yet produced. Production of the Mondial ceased in 1993, with this last 't' generation now being increasingly desired and collectible, with a total of only 858 Mondial t coupes being built between 1988-93 (45 of which were Right Hand Drive cars) and with only 43 imported to the US/CA and only 1,017 Mondial t Cabriolets built between 1989-93 (51 of them being RHD) and with only 379 being imported to US/CA.
This particular example with only some 9,242 original miles drives exactly like a well maintained and serviced ultra low mileage Ferrari should and must be driven to be fully appreciated and seen to be believed! You will surely look long and hard to find a finer or lower mileage example of this exceptionally clean and increasingly collectible and desirable Mondial t Cabriolet available anywhere else!
