West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptional example of this very rare 1987 Porsche 928 S4 5.0L 320HP V8 5 speed manual Coupe! Finished in the desirable and beautiful color combination of its extraordinarily rare 'Black' (paint code 700) with its original matching 'Black' (A1 code) leather seats interior! This is a very rare 928 S4, 1 of reportedly only some 434 built in 1987 with a 5 speed manual transmission!
This particular example is an extremely striking example in this unique all Black color combination and has obviously always been garaged and has no history of any accidents or damage and has a clean CARFAX report confirming both this history and mileage and comprehensive service history. The car was serviced and maintained for many years at the renown 'German Autotech' of Walnut Creek, CA and has only 104K original and well cared for miles.
The original factory 'Black' color paint is in very good condition with only some very minor imperfections noticeable upon close inspection, as is the all original 'Black' leather interior with a rare perfect dash and beautiful original factory carpets and mats. The car drives exactly like a well maintained and serviced Porsche should and must be driven to be fully appreciated and seen to be believed! The engine is extremely strong with no oil leaks, the transmission is very smooth and precise in shifting and the temperature always remains cool. All the options are working as they should including the ice cold air conditioning and power sunroof and windows. The car will also be sold with all of it's original dealer books and manuals.
The erstwhile 911 replacement was conceived in the early 70's with no resemblance to any of the marque's previous models. As different from the 911 as it could be with a front mounted water cooled fuel injected V8 connecting to a rear trans-axle and Weissach independent suspension featuring self correcting toe control. An all aluminum V8 with all disc brakes, a novel tilt steering wheel and instrument pod and comprehensively loaded with all the obvious refinements of a luxury GT. A bored 5.0L V8 with twin cam heads and 32 valves replaced the previous 4.7L in 1985 along with anti-lock brakes in '86. The handsome restyled S4 (4th series) arrived in '87 with a reshaped nose, smaller tail and less aero drag and still more power. The GTS was introduced in 1993 and proved to be the final variation of the 928. The V8 was enlarged to 5.4L and put out 345HP. This final incarnation was mildly revised in styling and remains controversial.
These cars were all deceptively fast and well built with smooth and refined V8's and were true German supercars that are only today beginning to be recognized outside the Porsche enthusiasts circles as the undervalued supercars which they most certainly are. They have terrific high speed handling abilities with all the obvious solid German craftsmanship. The S4 is proving to be the car the enthusiasts and investors are buying to put away, without the bulky rear fender flares of the GTS and the oil consuming and troublesome 5.4L engine, these are arguably the best of breed as far as most collectors are concerned with essentially the same performance of the last incarnation GTS model but at a fraction of the somewhat rarer GTS cost. There were some 2,421 S4's built in '87 for the USA/Canada and these S4 models are now fast appreciating in price and this particular example with the rare and very low production of reportedly only some 434 of the highly desirable 5 speed manual transmission models being built in 1987!
You will look long and hard to find a finer and extremely rare factory loaded and unique example of this exceptionally clean and increasingly collectible and desirable 1987 Porsche 928 5.0L V8 S4 Coupe with a 5 speed manual transmission available anywhere else!
