The Collector Edition was the first Corvette hatchback, with a frame-less glass lift-up hatch in place of the customary fixed backlight. It's unique 'Silver/Beige' metallic paint was accented by pin stripes and a 'fading shadow' treatment on the hood, fenders and doors plus distinctive cloisonne emblems. Special finned wheels and removable glass roof panels that had special bronze coloring and solar screening were added to this unique car. The body-color front bumper had a built in air dam. Also standard was a luggage security shade, concealed wipers, time-delay courtesy lamps, headlamp on reminder, lighted visor vanity mirror, a 7,000 rpm tachometer, an analog clock with sweep second hand, a lighter and a trip odometer. It included a 'Cross-Fire' TBI fuel injected engine and only 6,759 Collector Editions were built out of a total production of 25,407 cars. The Collector Edition's special aluminum wheels were designed to look like the bolt-on wheels of the 1967 car. The Collector Edition also had a '0' in the sixth digit of the VIN rather than the '8' found on the standard Corvette's. This was the first Corvette to sell for more than $20,000 with a base price of $22,537.59.
This particular example is in absolutely exceptional condition throughout with very striking paint and with the interior and the trim also in excellent and virtually flawless condition throughout and the car has factory correct 'BF Goodrich Radial T/A' tires. Purchased new at 'Bud Wolf Chevrolet' of Indianapolis and registered in Florida since new until purchased in 2014 by its most recent southern California owner. Obviously always garaged and primarily serviced by Chevrolet dealerships or Corvette specialists since new including originally at 'Roger Dean Chevrolet' of Cape Coral, FL and later at 'Eismann's Corvette Center' of Jupiter, FL. The car boasts a thick file of service records showing that at no time was any expense spared on this particular car's preventive and scheduled maintenance, it's original owners manuals and build sheet and handbooks, copies of both a clean Carfax and Auto Report and a desirable and coveted NCRS Top Flight Regional award at the 28th Annual Winter Regional Meet in Kissimmee, FL in 1/2006. The car was reportedly always garaged and is a simply exceptional example in every aspect and which would actually be indicative of a much lower mileage car than the already very low 32K miles!! All the options are working as they should including all gauges and lights.
This is one very rare and highly desirable well optioned example of this classic American sports car - a completely rust and accident free 1982 Chevrolet Corvette Collector's Edition with only 32K original miles and maintained and kept in a virtual time warp! An obviously always garaged and unabused example! The engine purrs imperceptibly under the hood and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly through the gears - an absolute pleasure to drive without any of the older Corvette typical shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day sports car a run for its money!
Without a doubt you will look long and hard to find a finer example of this last and most collectible year for the 'Mako Shark' generation - perfect for the Corvette enthusiast to add to his collection or of course to any classic American car collector!
