West Coast Classics are proud to present a beautiful example of this rare 1981 Fiat Spider 2000 by Pininfarina Convertible with the larger 2.0L engine from the earlier models with 1.8L engines and with an even rarer automatic transmission and believed to be 78K original miles!
The Fiat 124 Sport Spider was a 2+2 convertible sports car marketed by Fiat for model years 1966-1980 and designed and manufactured by the legendary Italian car design and coachbuilding firm 'Pininfarina'. The front-engine, rear drive 'Sport Spider' debuted at the 1966 Turin Auto Show and the result is a car that retains a timeless and balanced design that still looks fresh decades after it was introduced. Fiat later marketed the car as the 2000 Spider (1979-1982) and Pininfarina marketed the car at the end of its production as the Pininfarina Spider Azzura (1983-1985). The Fiat twin cam engine was designed by ex- Ferrari engineer Aurelio Lampredi. Bosch fuel injection replaced the previously used Weber carburetors midway through 1980 and in 1981 through 1982, Fiat USA, Inc. partnered with Legend Industries to create approximately 700 turbo models for US markets. There was also a supercharged model called 'Volumex' offered toward the end of production, which was sold only in Europe. This family of engines remained in production into the 1990s giving it one of the longest production runs in automotive history.
This is a very original and rust free car and a very fine example of a 1981 Fiat 2000 Spider with all of it's original factory specifications and options intact including original 'Ivory' color paint which has been repainted in the same color at some point in the past and which has only very minor imperfections or flaws in the paintwork and it's all original Tan color seats interior and soft top. The engine is extremely strong and responsive and the rare and recently rebuilt factory optional automatic transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool.
We understand that the car has been mechanically restored as required over the last few years and since purchasing the car last month we have had the car inspected at our local European specialists who have given the car a clean bill of health. There are no signs of any accidents or rust.
This is a rare opportunity to own a very rare and internationally desirable 1981 Fiat Spider 2000 Convertible with believed to be 78K original miles!
