West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this very rare 1979 Porsche 928 4.4L V8 230HP 5 speed manual Coupe! Finished in the desirable and beautiful color combination of its 'Grand Prix White' (paint code 908) with its original 'Tan' color leather seats interior!
This particular example is a superb and extremely striking example and has obviously always been garaged and has no history of any accidents or damage and has only some 94K original and well cared for miles.
The original 928 is most easily recognized by the absence of a rear spoiler which gives the car a sleeker look as the trunk sits flush with the body with signature Lamborghini like 16" five hole 'telephone dial' cast alloy wheels coming standard from the factory on the 5 speed manuals but with only 15" alloys on the 3 speed automatic models. Power came from Porsche's first ever eight cylinder all alloy water cooled 240bhp engine, a 4.5 liter Bosch fuel injected V8.
The original factory 'Grand Prix White' color paint is in very good condition as is the all original 'Tan' leather interior and beautiful original factory carpets. The car drives exactly like a well maintained and serviced Porsche should and must be driven to be fully appreciated and seen to be believed! The engine is extremely strong with no oil leaks, the transmission is very smooth and precise in shifting and the temperature always remains cool.
The erstwhile 911 replacement was conceived in the early 70's with no resemblance to any of the marque's previous models. As different from the 911 as it could be with a front mounted water cooled fuel injected V8 connecting to a rear trans-axle and Weissach independent suspension featuring self correcting toe control. An all aluminum V8 with all disc brakes, a novel tilt steering wheel and instrument pod and comprehensively loaded with all the obvious refinements of a luxury GT. A bored 5.0L V8 with twin cam heads and 32 valves replaced the previous 4.7L in 1985 along with anti-lock brakes in '86. The handsome restyled S4 (4th series) arrived in '87 with a reshaped nose, smaller tail and less aero drag and still more power. The GTS was introduced in 1993 and proved to be the final variation of the 928. The V8 was enlarged to 5.4L and put out 345HP. This final incarnation was mildly revised in styling and remains controversial.
These cars were all deceptively fast and well built with smooth and refined V8's and were true German supercars that are only today beginning to be recognized outside the Porsche enthusiasts circles as the undervalued supercars which they most certainly are. They have terrific high speed handling abilities with all the obvious solid German craftsmanship. There were only some 5,437 928's built in '79 in total and only 2,275 of which were built for the U.S market and these early models are now fast appreciating in price and this particular example with the rare and very low production of being one of the highly desirable 5 speed manual transmission models being built in 1987!
You will look long and hard to find a finer and extremely rare factory loaded and unique example of this exceptionally clean and increasingly collectible and desirable early model 1979 Porsche 928 V8 Coupe with a 5 speed manual transmission available anywhere else!
