The Firebird was Pontiac's slightly more upmarket version of the Chevrolet Camaro and the models were given a restyling in 1969 for their third season in the marketplace. A new RPO (regular production option) was quietly slipped into the lineup during midyear, the Trans Am, a new high performance option roughly equivalent to the GTO in the LeMans lineup. Power came from a 400 4 BBL V8 with 330HP and in the Ram Air III with 335HP 430 lbs torque at 3400 rpm (634 cars, coupes & convertibles) or Ram Air IV with 345HP 430 lbs torque at 3700 rpm (55 cars, all coupes) versions. Either way well over 350HP was available in a car that weighed just over 3,000 pounds! That provided for some literally amazing performance in a pony car and these models were extremely limited in production.
This particular example has had only two southern California owners since new and boasts a copy of it's original window sticker confirming all it's original options and a car which has been beautifully and professionally restored and customized by only it's second owner in its original 'Carousel Red' (Paint Code 72) factory color and its original 'Black' Custom Knit Vinyl Weave (Trim code 218) interior and a car which has obviously always been been well maintained and kept since new! This car must be seen and indeed driven to be fully appreciated. The matching #'s rebuilt 'YT' code 400/330HP 4 Barrel V8 engine has been stroked to a standard 455 with approximately 486HP and the car has the following custom upgrades:
