The car was originally an SS396 2 Door Hardtop and boasted a Big Block 6.5L 396 V8 with factory air conditioning and in 2014 a custom 454 V8 engine professionally handcrafted and built and installed at the renown 'Phoenix Engine' of Phoenix, AZ and has a mere 4,289 miles on the build. The Chevrolet Chevelle needs no introduction and is legendary amongst muscle car enthusiasts as a rugged car and therefore a perfect candidate for customizing - this particular example was professionally built with all the requisite upgrades including a Big Block 454 V8 engine with 455HP matched to a 700R4 automatic transmission with Overdrive.
By 1970, Chevrolet introduced the ultimate powerhouse for its midsize muscle car and was voted the best muscle car of all by 'Car and Driver'. It was also the year GM lifted its displacement ban on all its midsize muscle cars. Today, it is regarded as one of the most fearsome muscle cars of all time. GM built the car to show up Ford and Mopar and the all out performance of the LS-6 454 had the competition shuddering. The all-out performance engine of 1970 had a factory rating of 450 bhp and no other muscle car production engine had a higher rating. By 1972, the last year of these desirable models, the bhp had dropped to 270 bhp.
This particular custom has very striking classic 'Le Mans Blue with White Stripes' paintwork which is in absolutely exceptional condition, as it the whole car. This particular car must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - the Big Block 454 V8 engine with only some 4,289 miles since the build is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool.
This is one very fine example of a highly desirable and collectible muscle car with no signs of any previous rust or signs of any previous accidents or bodywork with its seemingly all original sheet metal in turn-key ready daily appreciating, daily driving and daily head-turning condition!
