Reportedly, the original owner owned the car up until 1970. Many years later, finding an ad showing the car for sale again, the original owner(s) purchased it again, restored it for 9 years, and now here it sits today! Powered by the 340 V8 under the hood paired up with a 4-speed manual transmission. Chrome and brightwork are in good shape and show very well overall. White vinyl bucket seat interior with aftermarket gauges added below the dash and to the steering column. Riding on 'American Racing' polished aluminum wheels. Equipped with aluminum high rise intake, 4bbl carb, 2" exhaust, and headers.
The compact Dodge Dart of 1967 received all new grille treatments and trim revisions and was both luxuriously and comprehensively equipped, in '68 a new high powered 275 horsepower 340 cubic inch BV8 was added to the line up for the Dart models, this new engine was standard equipment in the new top-of-the-line GTS 2 Door Hardtop & Convertible models. Lacking a pony car to compete with the Mustang, Camaro and Nova SS; the idea being to create a muscle car from an existing line, the Dodge Dart GTS, with Bumblebee stripes at the back, hood louvers and special Rallye wheels, and the 340 CID V8 under the hood was the answer. These muscle cars, at only 3000 lbs, were superbly powered with the 340 V8, and greatly underrated by opponents at the dragstrip!
This particular car would seem to have been always garaged with no sun damage and no history of any accidents or rust. The 340/275HP 4BBL V8 engine runs very well and has excellent oil pressure and no noticeable oil leaks and is mated with its original and very desirable 4 speed manual transmission which shifts smoothly through the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool. All the factory tags and markings are still present and everything is still pretty much 1968 original including the interior, apart from the added gauges and wheels!
This is an obviously a very rare find and a beautiful example of a 1968 Dodge Dart GTS 340 V8 2 Door Hardtop and will no doubt prove to be one daily appreciating, daily driving and daily head-turning all time classic American car with most of it's original specifications 100% intact!
