West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this very rare rust free California 1965 Toyota Landcruiser 3.9L 6 Cylinder 4WD with an upgraded 4 speed manual transmission in the most desirable rigid 2 Door hardtop body-style with no signs of any previous body work and which is reportedly the recipient of at least a 15 year + restoration (as required over the years) under it's previous ownership which started in the late 1990's and which has included all mechanics and cosmetics! A truly exceptional and striking example with an undercarriage as clean and fresh as it's body.
The Toyota Landcruiser is the longest running series for Toyota and certainly one of the finest true off road 4WD full size sport utility vehicles ever built and a legendary performer in the harshest of settings as proved through extensive testing by Toyota in the Australian outback, notorious for extreme temperatures and terrain and where it became hugely popular and Australia's best selling full size body on frame four wheel drive vehicle ever! Production started in 1954 and by 1973 over 300K Landcruisers had been sold worldwide; a true testament of their legendary capabilities! It was produced as a convertible, a Hardtop, a Station Wagon and there was a Utility Truck version.
This particular example is one of the very desirable early models, a 1965 FJ40L 2 Door Hardtop with its date correct original F series (F 421220) 3,878cc 6 cylinder engine with the odometer reading 50K miles and boasting a later style removable White Hardtop, swing away rear tire carrier with a rare drop down tailgate, rear fender flares, Silver painted bumpers, original stock 15" wheels with correct and virtually still as new BF Goodrich all terrain T/A tires showing obviously very few miles and displaying 2015 codes.
The FJ40 series is an iconic and classic series and these trucks are now being sought after like never before with models like this fully restored examples being especially prized by enthusiasts. The FJ40 series (1960-83) initially sported a 3.9L 6 cylinder engine with a 3 speed manual gearbox until 1975 when it sported a larger and more powerful 4.2L 2F version. The FJ40 finally had low range gearing but continued with a 3 speed main gearbox. This particular example has an upgraded 4 speed floor shifter manual transmission which drives the rear and all 4 wheels with a 2 speed transfer case with the gear lever on the dashboard locking in the front differential.
This particular example was obviously always well maintained and serviced, probably never off-road with no damage - it has been beautifully repainted in Red with a body colored matching interior featuring replacement upholstery for the split front bench seat and side facing fold-away rear jump seats. The door fits and gaps all around are extraordinary good and all the lights, brakes, horns, signals and even wipers are all working as they should. This well maintained truck has been both cosmetically and mechanically restored and runs very strong, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the temperature always remains cool - drives exactly like such a well maintained example should!
You will look long and hard to find a finer example of this increasingly desirable and fully restored legendary FJ40 series Toyota Landcruiser in the rigid 2 door hardtop body-style with a removable hardtop and drop down windshield for the ultimate 'Safari' style 4x4 and with this particular model still looking mostly all stock and only owned for many years by obviously only very careful and mature California owner's!
