By 1958 Ford was betting the farm on a totally revamped line of full-size cars as well as the totally new compact Falcon. The first of the four seater Thunderbirds were nicknamed the 'Squarebird' because of their 'boxy' lines and wide pillar roof, which would go on to be applied to other Ford models from Galaxies and Falcons into the 60's, along with plenty of their competitors too. A slow starter as far as collectibles, these are coming of age now and starting to enjoy a strong following, especially obviously amongst Ford enthusiasts.
