West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptionally straight and rust free and great daily driving survivor of this very rare and original San Francisco Bay ordered and kept California car since new and obviously used sparingly, 'Mopar Big Fin' 1959 Chrysler New Yorker 413/350HP V8 2 door Hardtop with its original and highly desirable and legendary High Performance 413 CID 350 HP V8 MR 'Golden Lion' 'Wedge-Type' engine with the 4 bbl Carter carburetor which was extremely powerful for its day and which would become the basis for a successful racing engine in Chrysler's future and cemented Chrysler's reputation for engineering great engines that would serve Chrysler well in various forms for the next 20 years.
This particular car was recently acquired from its long time San Francisco Bay California owner and still boasts its 1963 issued California 'Black License' plates, issued in '63 after the original California 'Gold & Black' plates were turned in in exchange for these plates. This is a superbly straight, rare and virtually completely stock surviving example of a reportedly always garaged in a climate controlled storage facility in California car with no signs of any accident damage and with a completely straight and honest body with absolutely no rust or filler and with all its original 'TS' headlamps (apart from one 'GE Bullseye' headlamp, which was replaced at some point), and its all original factory tail lamp lenses.
One of only 2,435 '59 2 Door Hardtops built and marketed by Chrysler as a 6 passenger vehicle and quite simply as 'America's most powerful car' and a model that the prestigious 'Motor Trend' magazine selected not only as the seasons 'Best Looking Hardtop', quite an achievement in Detroit's fabled 1959 year, but also reported that the same year 1959 'E' series letter model moves even faster than the 1958 'D' series which started arguments that continue to this day!
This was the last year Chrysler would carry the body-on-frame construction before going over to a unit-body construction for the 1960 model. This was also the first year for the 'Wedge-Type' V8 engine making the 1959 cars the only body-on-frame cars to carry the 'Wedge' type V8 engine from the factory. Also, another first this year to the option list was the swivel-type front seats which could be specially ordered in the form of a bench seat (as with this particular model) or as a bucket seat in certain models. An absolutely stunning car with its original wrap around front and rear picture window windshields and finished in this striking original color combination with the incredibly rare original vinyl seats in 'Red' color and embossed with Chrysler emblems and with its original and matching White headliner with beautiful chrome headliner bows and also boasting stunning original door panels and a perfect original condition package tray including the original Chrysler badge.
The car is fully loaded with factory options including the very desirable power 6-way swivel seat option ($102 option), full floor carpeting, Push-button 'Torqueflite' transmission, Power steering, Power brakes, Dual exhaust, original AM radio ($124 option), Custom heater ($102), Power Windows ($108 option), Auto-Pilot Cruise Control ($86), Tinted glass ($43), Prismatic rear view mirror, undercoating, automatic headlamp beam changer, Electric clock, rear seat armrest, full gauges and original deluxe full wheel covers mounted on factory correct whitewall correct BF Goodrich 'Silvertown' bias belt tires.
Again, importantly this car is a true survivor which was obviously always garaged in a climate controlled facility and boasts its original 'Ivory White' (X Code) factory color paint and quite stunning, and almost unbelievably, all original 'Red' vinyl interior. An original San Francisco Bay California car, and rare for these rust prone cars, a car which is completely rust and accident free. Under the hood is found the cars original 413 'MR' engine boasting 350HP and only very low miles since new, approximately 78K, and still equipped with its original 4 barrel carburetor, desirable power steering, power windows and power brakes and with the body in very solid and original condition and with the chrome and bright trim all complete and unblemished, again in quite remarkable condition for their age. Survivors from this era are rare, (indeed when was the last time you saw one either advertised or at auction?) making this car an asset to any dedicated Chrysler or MOPAR collection.
The original and obviously low mileage 413 'Golden Lion' MR V8 engine runs strong and sounds absolutely magnificent and this particular car drives extraordinarily well - must be driven to be appreciated - does not miss a beat and purrs like a kitten - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day car a run for it's money!
Simply put, the 1959 Chrysler New Yorker was Chrysler's standard top-liner from the golden age of Virgil Exner styling with the ultra clean lines, and as always with the New Yorkers, which offered Chrysler's division most luxurious trim and appointments as well as the best performance short of the limited edition 300's, it was one of the most exciting American cars ever produced, combining iconic styling, performance and luxury, or as some would say 'the total package', and with very few remaining '59 Chrysler New Yorkers remaining on the road, this is an extremely unusual opportunity to own a correct and stock great daily driving example of this extraordinarily rare and very desirable original 1959 Chrysler New Yorker 2 Door Hardtop in extraordinarily fine daily driving condition and ready for any classic American car or Mopar collection or for the true enthusiast to enjoy or collect today!
