STUNNING 1954 JAGUAR XK 120 ROADSTER IN BRITISH RACING GREEN WITH TAN LEATHER!!
West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional and very rare and rust free example of this coveted 1954 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster convertible roadster Left Hand Drive model which was restored in 1994 by renown XK restorers 'A. Lefevre Co.,' of Paris, France to like new condition with an excellent body with no damage history and no rust! This beauty still boasts five optional center lock wire wheels (which were available from 1951) with the spats, aka Fender Skirts (in America!), removed as was typical due to insufficient clearance for the knock off hubs and with its original 'knock off' 'Thor Hammer' English mallet, jack and a full weather tonneau cover, factory installed plaque on dash and very rare side curtains/windows!
The XK 120 was produced by Jaguar between 1948-54 and caused an absolute sensation when launched and was immediately destined to become one of the most collectible cars of all time. Its name referred to its straight 6, 3442 cc 120 mph (193 km/h) top speed (faster with the windscreen removed!) engine which was insanely fast for its day and made the XK120 the world's fastest standard production car at the time of its launch and a very successful racer which spurred Jaguar onto breaking many world speed records.
The roadster's lightweight canvas top and detachable side-screens stow out of sight behind the seats and its doors have no external handles; instead there was an interior pully cord which is accessible through a flap in the sidescreens when the weather equipment is in place. The windscreen can be removed if desired! The drophead coupe (DHC) had a padded and lined canvas top, which folded onto the rear deck behind the seats when retracted and roll-up windows and the dashboards and door-caps in both the DHC and the closed coupé (FHC) were wood-veneered, whereas the more spartan and lighter roadster's were leather-trimmed.
The car's engine is a factory installed 'C' Type head with noticeable horsepower increase and runs as smooth as silk with the 4 speed manual transmission shifting smoothly through the gears and the car driving exactly as it should with only very low miles since its restoration. There are two electric fans installed to keep the engine temperature down which are a very effective and essential upgrade to these legendary sports cars as these models were notorious for overheating with their small grille and radiator.
The car has been stored since 2006 at which time the brakes were completely overhauled with new front and rear wheel cylinders and master cylinders replaced. The ignition system was overhauled with new batteries and cables, new coil, Lucas ignition contact set, spark plugs and a new working modern fuel pump. The car was recently inspected prior to sale and is driving beautifully. There is a choke that is activated by a toggle switch under the dash beside the hood release.
The car has no rust whatsoever with the floor boards and all the typical rust-prone areas solid and rust-free! The car shows no signs of any accidents and has a very straight body with only very minor imperfections only noticeable upon very close inspection. The car looks extremely impressive in its 'British Racing Green' color paint with matching green wire wheels which were deliberately substituted for the original chrome wire wheels which were thought to be too gaudy, distracting and commonplace by the car's restorer and a beautiful tan 'Havana' leather interior which also has only very minor imperfections since its restoration with the door panels, dashboard, seats and carpets all in very fine original condition. The black soft top was replaced in 1994 at the time of the restoration to its original frame and is also in very good shape with only one very small, maybe 1 inch in size, tear on the drivers side, just above the fender (see photos below) and the car has a full weather tonneau cover which is also in very fine shape and has not shrunk or have any rips or tears. The car also has side curtains with sliding windows. Please note that the car also has a leather hood strap and Driving/Fog lamps that were added for cosmetic reasons and are not original to the car although the leather strap on the hood was customarily added later for racing purposes as a wise insurance against possible flying hoods. The car also boasts longer seat tracks installed on the driver's side for more comfortable driving! The car also has a custom fitting dust cover made in Paris, France by its restorers.
When this stunning model debuted in 1948 at the Earls Court Motor Show in London, England it was the darling of the show and remains today as much of a show stopper as it did then, over sixty-five years later! In terms of design, the two-seater roadster with its classically simple flowing lines, slender tail and exotic flush-sided body was a massive leap forward for sports car design at the time and in many ways its styling remains unparalleled. Combined with new standards in terms of performance, Jaguar had obviously built what was destined to become this milestone and eminently always collectible classic car.
